Hungary and Poland will go head to head in the matchday 1 of the 2022 World Cup qualification Group I on Thursday. The kick-off is at 20:45 CET.

The Hungarians are in over their heads right now after qualifying for the European Championship and winning their Nations League group in November 2020. Hence, Marco Rossi's men will play hosts to Poland on the back of a six-game unbeaten run with four wins and two draws.
The Polish side have also made it to the upcoming Euros but finished behind Italy and and the Netherlands in their Nations League group last year. The latter failure somehow caused the sacking of Jerzy Brzeczek earlier this year. Paulo Sousa succeeded Brzeczek at the helm of the team in January so Thursday's encounter will be the Portuguese's debut game in charge of Poland.
Hungary's arguably best player Dominik Szoboszlai will not fuature this time around through a thigh injury while Poland will be without Mateusz Klich who has tested positive for Covid-19.
Prediction
With Szoboszlai on the sidelines the hosts will probably be aiming to keep a clean sheet in their WC qualification opener. Nevertheless, Robert Lewandowski is set to lead Poalnd's attacking line on Thursday and thus we do expect the Bayern Munich striker to make the difference in Budapest. As a reminder, the 32-year-old has scored 42 goals in 36 appearances for the Bavarians this season so far.
