Friday's season opener will be the first game for Bayern since August's win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. Schalke, in turn, played five pre-season friendlies since losing 4-0 to Freiburg on the final day of the 2019/20 Bundesliga campaign in June. The Bavarians have no significant absentees except for this summer signing Tanguy Nianzou Kouassi, who is out with an injury, David Alaba and Jerome Boateng, who remain in doubt, ahead of the Miners' visit to Munich.

Matija Nastasic and Salif Sane also risk missing the Bayern clash. Schalke also sold their key defensive midfielder Weston McKennie to Juventus in the summer.

Prediction

Bayern claimed the treble last season so Hansi Flick's side are clear favourites to beat David Wagner's men at the Allianz Arena. What's more, the Bavarians destroyed the Royal Blues 5-0 in their last league encounter in January. Let's be clear, Bayern have hardly become weaker since then while Schalke haven't really improved.
