PSV Eindhoven will lock horns with Midtjylland in the first leg of the Champions League third qualifying round at Philips Stadion on Tuesday. The kick-off is at 20:00 CEST.

Having finished behind Ajax in the 2020/21 Eredivisie campaign, PSV started off their run in this season's Champions League season in the second qualifying round where they destroyed Galatasaray 7-2 on aggregate last month. It remains to be seen if this fact really helps the Dutch giants in this two-legged tie but Roger Schmidt's side will not feature in the 2021/22 Eredivisie until their season opener against Hercales on August 14.

Midtjylland, for their part, knocked Celtic out of the CL in the previous round (3-2 on aggregate) last week before registering a 2-0 victory against Viborg in the Danish top flight over the weekend. Bo Henriksen's men are currently on top of their domestic league table and are set to be full of beans when they meet PSV on Tuesday.

Olivier Boscagli was sent off in the Galatasaray second leg and thus will not feature this time around. While Donyell Malen already left Eindhoven for Borussia Dortmund last week, another PSV's Euro 2020 star Denzel Dumfries continues to be linked with an exit from the club this summer and is expected to sit out the forthcoming clash. The visiting side, in turn, have no confirmed absentees in their squad.

Prediction

Even though PSV are placed as the hot favourites to claim a victory on Tuesday, given what they did to Galatasaray, we wouldn't be so sure about their chances in this one. Midtjylland have proven themselves to be a hard nut to crack over the past few seasons so we do expect a quite narrow outcome in the first leg at Philips Stadion.
