Monaco will welcome Real Sociedad to the Stade Louis II in the Europa League matchday 5 on Thursday. The kick-off is at 22:00 CEST.

Even if their Champions League hopes were put to bed by Shakhtar Donetsk in the playoff back in August, Monaco continue to top the EL Group B standings with eight points after four games and thus a victory on Thursday could become their one final step towards the competition's knock-out stages. Niko Kovac's men, however, haven't been that much successful in the Ligue 1 so far as they'll play hosts to Sociedad on the back of a three-game streak without a victory, including a 2-2 draw with Lille last Friday which saw the Monegasques moving into eighth in the league table.
The Basques, meanwhile, have also gone four games unbeaten in Group B but have only managed one victory in the competition so far while drawing the other three encounters, including a 1-1 stalemate with Kovac's crop at Anoeta in September. As for their run in La Liga, Imanol Alguacil's side are now second in the table, only one point adrift of leaders Real Madrid and will travel to France on the back of a 13-game unbeaten streak in the Spanish top flight.

Jean Marcelin, Eliot Matazo and Cesc Fabregas are all unavailable for the hosts due to injury while Nacho Monreal, Asier Illarramendi, Jon Guridi, Carlos Fernandez won't help the visitors in this one for the same reason.
Prediction
Even though Sociedad suffered a 4-2 loss to Barcelona in the 2021/22 season opener, the Basques have gone 18 matches across all competitions unbeaten and could realistically finish in the La Liga top four this term. Hence, we can't envisage La Real's incredible streak reaching its own end at the Stade Louis II, especially given Monaco's current run of four games without a victory in all competitions.
