Valencia, meanwhile, also claimed a 2-1 win over Cartagena in the Spanish Cup in mid-week which followed a rather unexpected 1-2 loss at the hands of Espanyol on December 31. That defeat put an end to the Bats' nine-match unbeaten run in all competitions which has helped Jose Bordalas' side to find themselves in ninth in the standings with 28 points, whopping 18 points adrift of their forthcoming opponents who sit at the very top of the table.
Team news
Even though Dani Carvajal is the only confirmed injury absentee in Ancelotti's squad, Mariano Diaz, Gareth Bale and Luka Jovic remain doubtful for the weekend's clash for various reasons. Gabriel Paulista, Dimitri Foulquier and Toni Lato, in turn, will not help Bordalas' crop in the Spanish capital through injury while Hugo Duro is suspended for this one.
Prediction
Madrid defeated Valencia twice in 2021, including a 2-1 victory at Mestalla earlier this season thanks to late goals from Vinicius Junior and Karim Benzema and a 2-0 success at the Bernabeu last term. Even though the Bats have proven themselves a tough nut to crack since Bordalas' appointment this summer, we do expect the Blancos to extend their winning run against Valencia to three matches on Saturday.
