It's been less then three weeks since Brighton rather sensationally managed to hold Chelsea to a 1-1 battling draw at Stamford Bridge on December 29. Graham Potter's men have gone unbeaten in three matches in all competitions since then, including back-to-back wins over Everton and West Bromwich in the Premier League and the FA Cup respectively and the most recent 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace in the league on Friday. As a result, the Seagulls are on a five-game unbeaten streak in all competitions and will play hosts to the Blues sitting in the ninth place in the table with 28 points taken from 20 games.

Thomas Tuchel's side, meanwhile, saw their 11-match unbeaten run coming to an end over the weekend as they suffered a narrow defeat to Manchester City on Saturday. That loss at the Etihad Stadium means that Chelsea have slipped down to third in the standings with 43 points, already 13 points adrift of Pep Guardiola's crop who continue to lead the table.

While Jeremy Sarmiento and Enock Mwepu are definitely out of this encounter through injury, Yves Bissouma is still at the Africa Cup of Nations. Chelsea, in turn, will be without Reece James, Ben Chilwell and Trevor Chalobah who all remain on the sidelines. Andreas Christensen, meanwhile, has been ruled out after testing positive for Covid-19 lately. Edouard Mendy, for his part, is unavailable due to his AFCON duties.

Prediction

Given that the Blues had failed to beat Potter's men just under a month ago while going winless in the two following games, Tuesday's clash promises to be a quite difficult match for Chelsea. On the other hand, the Blues badly need all three points in this one following their slip-up at City, so we'd rather stick with Tuchel's crop in this one.
