That was also the Blues' first victory in the English top flight following back-to-back draws with Everton and Wolverhampton, so apparently Thomas Tuchel's men are back on track. As things stand now, Chelsea are third in the table with 41 points, level on points with second-placed Liverpool who have a game in hand and six points adrift of leaders Man City.
Brighton, for their part, were lucky enough to put an end to a 12-game winless streak across all competition on Sunday when goals from Leandro Trossard and Neal Maupay secured Graham Potter's side all three points against Brentford (2-0). Thus, the Seagulls are coming into this encounter sitting in ninth in the standings with 23 points, already 18 points behind their forthcoming opponents but with two games in hand.
Team news
While Ben Chilwell remains on the sidelines with a long-term injury, Thiago Silva and N'Golo Kante are set to sit out this clash after suffering minor injuries over the weekend. Kai Havertz and Timo Werner, meanwhile, are yet to be given the green light to feature having recovered from Covid-19 lately. Lewis Dunk, Steven Alzate, Jeremy Sarmiento and Joel Veltman, meanwhile, will play no part for the visitors on Wednesday due to respective injury woes.
Prediction
While Chelsea have gone unbeaten in six matches in all competitions since losing at West Ham in early December, Brighton, as mentioned, have only claimed one victory in their last 13 fixtures. What's more, the Seagulls have failed to score in each of their previous six viisits to Stamford Bridge and it doesn't seem likely that Potter's crop are going to break that trend on Wednesday.
